VITAMIN GREEN PROPOSAL FOR FEAST

COLLABORATIVE PROJECT CLARA IBARRA / GARRET WALTER / AJ BLOCK / PATRICIA BURASCHI

This proposal was written to submit to FEAST. We invite you to join us on April 4th to enjoy their next event.

Vitamin Green aims to shed light upon Greenpoint’s communal unity through oral testimony extracted in unconventional contexts. When passing our mobile jungle landscape on the streets of Greenpoint, pedestrians will be invited to become part of our project. They will have the opportunity to dress up and be portrayed as if they were in a tropical jungle and will be asked to share stories from their lives. These experiences will then be documented and abstracted into an experimental video.

The final video will be screened night of a series of mobile screenings that will take place around Greenpoint for a period of two weeks. Our main goal is to surprise the community and screen it in non-conventional places i.e. trees, buildings, abandoned facades and local businesses. DVD’s free of charge will be also available for Feast’s guests and pedestrians interested in sharing the video with others.

This project allows the Greenpoint community to participate in the oral history of Greenpoint. The process of collecting stories erases barriers of time and space allowing the community to blend in something bigger that transcends the limits of the private life. Under the objectives of this project it is not just the urban history of Greenpoint that is under scrutiny but contemporaneity itself. It is also an effort to configure an experience that will portray how personal stories are part of a long-term, historical movement that develops day by day.
